Nokia 3500 Classic

The 3500 Classic is one of the latest mid-range devices out of Nokia HQ, announced at Nokia Connection in Singapore recently. The simplistic, colourful device has a large 1.8” LCD display, microSD memory card support, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, and a 2mpx digital camera with 8x zoom.

The 3500 Classic’s display has a smoked gloss surface and an active area of 1.8”. The resolution is 128 x 160 pixels and the TFT display supports up to 262,144 colours. The 2mpx digital camera has a full screen viewfinder application for capturing images up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. The 8x digital zoom can be used to get closer to the action, but unfortunately there is no flash.

There is a solid metal rim around the outside of the handset that protects it from scratches, and gives the handset a very similar look to the Nokia 6300. The handset also has colouring in the keymat to add a touch of colour to the face of the handset. The back of the 3500 Classic is bright blue – but kept minimalistic with just the 2mpx lens and Nokia branding.

In terms of memory, the 3500 Classic has 32MB of flash and 16MB of RAM – but only 8.5MB of user accessible memory. Thankfully there is a microSD memory card slot which supports cards up to 2GB in size for additional storage space. The 3500 Classic has a media player which supports MP3, AAC, eAAC, eAAC+, WMA, true tones, and polyphonic MIDI files. These file types are also supported as ringing tones.

Connecting to a PC or other compatible device is easy with either USB or Bluetooth protocols. The handset has a miniUSB port and built in Bluetooth connectivity, which can be used to synchronize and transfer data to and from the handset.

The 3500 Classic supports the GSM 850, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz networks and has EDGE and GPRS Class 10 packet connectivity for over the air data. Pre-installed applications include Instant Messaging with Presence, Flash Lite 2.0, and several PIM applications including an alarm, organizer, calculator, countdown timer, and voice functionality applications.

The 3500 Classic is expected down under in the 3rd quarter of 2007.
